Avatar & Soccer

by Ricardo Costa

I committed to the creation of an enlightened planetary civilization some time ago. I’ve been pursuing my personal growth to share this vision with others, since I believe it has to start within them and reach out. A couple months ago, I came across an opportunity to do that kind of work and with some very special people — kids!

That opportunity came as a volunteer soccer coach to the Sedona-AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization). I presented myself and mentioned I was Brazilian. The lady who was in charge was so happy; yet I didn’t even mention if I knew the game. After explaining my background and intentions about soccer, I told her I was going to put into practice some Avatar techniques, which she had heard of before. She then placed me in the division 3 (12-13 year olds). Minutes later, I was introduced to her son as his future coach; with that statement I got the picture.

I have been heavily into sports my whole life, and as a rule of thumb you have to play very offensively. Otherwise one of the following things can happen to you in that victimhood belief system: you can lose the game; lose your spot to someone else; get very hurt, since they are going to hurt you anyway; and so on. After years of that mentality and becoming extremely aggressive, I gave up and started to look at what was wrong with me and my friends as we were trying to “kill” each other.

Thus I felt I could give a little hand to the world. Once I heard of a belief that seems to resonate: “How you do anything is how you do everything.” Using some of the Avatar exercises from Creativism and ReSurfacing we can create some space for change and improvement. And I get to practice a lot of my Avatar skills on feelings of responsibility and other creations that come up. This has been a growing experience for all of us, because as I was told by some of the parents, and I quote: “...it’s really good to have someone who can understand and believe in them.”

There is another concept that I am working on, and that is competition. I want to show that is possible to play the game with a different perspective in which players come to the field with the intention to exercise their talent, abilities and skills. An opportunity to put into practice concepts about WIN-WIN. A situation where nobody loses, it’s all about having fun, building relationships and creating a healthy environment to reflect later on that WIN-WIN situation in “real” life.

We have already started our practices, and it’s great to be part of this creation. They are so willing to do it. I have a belief that kids do not need to be taught how to do things; they already know how. Our job is to give enough space and not let them forget how wonderful, creative, loving, caring, and complete they are. I can already feel the change. As Nelly Ptaschkina once said: “A minute is often enough to change a life of a man completely.” And Goeth said: “Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.”

This is a project I am doing that I truly believe to be a great thing for all of us. Today those kids are athletes and tomorrow, who knows? But one thing I know, they have the opportunity to be better people just by believing in themselves and not falling in the category of failures (victimhood) and realizing that the game (life) does not need to be hard.

These kids understand that they can make a change now, that they have as much or more power of speech as the grown ups! This is a goal I have, and I believe is in alignment with Star’s Edge and with what I have been looking for so long.

If you can relate to what you have just read, what can you do to create an enlightened planetary civilization and a WIN-WIN situation in your own game?
