Any Reality Reveals It's Magic
If You Look Close Enough

by Fred Dodson

One day I tried an experiment, just for fun. This was after I broke off the relationship with my Avatar girlfriend.

I quit reading books about spirituality. I quit identifying with being especially spiritual or an Avatar Master. I quit visiting courses, retreats and presentations on spirituality. I let go of anything that separated me, “the spiritual person” from everyday life and everyday people.
The most valuable thing Avatar had taught me is that I am able to identify with any reality and let go of any reality. I started intentionally developing new habits, and focusing my whole interest on topics and activities I couldn’t imagine liking before: watching football games and intensely studying the statistics, beginning a relationship with someone who knew nothing of Avatar or spirituality, appreciating everyday people and everyday life, instead of yearning to escape into some kind of meditation retreat.

Suddenly I was talking differently, acting differently, focusing differently. And I felt very, very alive. I had radically changed my reality, and it was so exciting.

From this point of view, people talking spirituality and searching for enlightenment actually looked quite funny. I had to laugh out loud when a friend didn’t understand why I´d rather go play soccer with some buddies than to a satsang retreat. I suddenly, clearly saw the fixed identity called, “I am spiritual.” For some people, this means being fixed within a very limited reality frame. Saying, “This is spiritual, and that is not spiritual. We are spiritual people, those are not spiritual people.” And I realized that this new reality I was focusing on contained magic, energy and spirituality too. Let’s take the example of football. Looking closer, I learned about polarity, willpower, focusing on the goal, group alignment— everything I had learned in Avatar and spiritual teachings. Things I had rejected earlier became fascinating lessons to me.

In my relationship with an apparently “unspiritual” woman, I saw the power, energy, love, appreciation and creativity.

Having created and fully experienced that reality, I let go of it again. Next I will create a new reality, identify with a new thing. Maybe being an actor or an author. We´ll see. It´s easy. An Avatar can identify with any reality and perceive the magic of any reality. The reality one identifies with needn’t become a trap or routine. It can become a treasure chest full of fascination and learning opportunities. Seeing from these eyes, everything and everyone is spiritual. Nothing is excluded.

I will now re-identify with being an Avatar-Master, taking all I’ve learned with me.
