Avatar & Nepal

by Pauli Gerritsen

Hi Miken, nice to contact you again. How are you? Although you haven’t gotten any news from me for a long time, Avatar is still an interesting and joyful creative part of my life. With Rob and me everything is fine. You will see me/us during Wizards again.
I am glad to let you know that we had a special Avatar course in Nepal with 11 people; 8 of whom were deaf and mute. Here is a short impression.
It was our last course in Nepal. We, Pauli Gerritsen (the Netherlands) and Rajesh Shrestha (Nepal) delivered Avatar to eight deaf and mute people as well as three other people. For the translation two Nepalese Avatars, Hari Bol and his wife Laxmi, assisted us. Both are able to express themselves in sign language. Rajesh and I had no experience with an Avatar course like this. We were curious how to do the Source List, the Initiations, and how the deaf and mute students could coach each other.
We decided to let the course run its own process.
Although ReSurfacing and the Avatar Materials are translated into the Nepalese language, it had to be translated again during the course into sign language, because only two of the deaf and mute students were able to read.
We used simple signs for the coaching between the deaf and mute, and the speaking students went on just like at any international course. Actually guiding them through the Initiation session was very easy. For the processing steps we created a simple sign language, and we gave the Initiation while Hari Bol was translating in sign language.
There were wonderful moments. At a certain moment one of the students who is able to hear a little started to speak in Newari, his mother language. He could speak it so clear that Rajesh, who is also a Newari, could understand him. He went on speaking during the course even in Nepalese so I could understand him too.
It was a light and joyful course, with a lot of good humor, and the last two days they were dancing and singing. Of course we have never seen our students as someone with an identity of a speaking or non-speaking person. The students had in the past experienced that others often thought that deaf and mute people were also stupid. During the course, they played with this painful feeling. One of the happiest results of the course was that they recovered their own self-respect.
They all are now participating in a training to become a potter or ceramist in order to become independent for their living. One of the female students also started with a computer course to find work in that direction, and because she likes to communicate with friends by e-mail.
With Love
Pauli, signing also for Rajesh

On behalf of HVP-Nepal, I would like to thank you so much for sending us the documents about Avatar. These greatly helped us to know about your wonderful and inspiring activities. We are really very much impressed with your dedication and commitment towards materializing such a noble mission.
We have greatly enjoyed reading all the documents you sent to us. I must mention that your deeds and thoughts are very much positive to create goodwill, true friendship, and ideal international brotherhood all around the world. The world now needs the people like you who selflessly contribute to generation of peace, tolerance, harmony, and non-violence.
It is very much felt that the people should be brought to a common forum where they can sit with a relaxed mind and discuss the problem the world is facing and their right solution. And what I feel is that your institute is much committed to this noble cause. We therefore hope that we will be in touch regularly in the future.
Finally, we wish you and your ever dedicated staff all the success and that you will be able to make people realize the significance of spirituality.
We once again express our gratitude to you for your co-operation.

With best regards
C.M. Yogi
