A Note From The Publisher:

Be Like The Bamboo

In this time when the world needs to focus on renewable resources, we must acquaint you with the bamboo.

Fifteen hundred varieties of bamboo grow from the tropics to the frigid zones. Many of them are classed as rampantly invasive, meaning they grow rapidly and spread widely. Bamboo grows in almost any type of soil and actually improves the soil by the thick layer of humus that it produces by the decay of its leaves. By comparable size and weight it is stronger and more flexible than oak and grows ten times faster! It is resistant to drought, keeps the earth from eroding and purifies both the air and the soil where it is found. When it is harvested, it grows again without replanting.

Bamboo can be used to make plywood, paper, methane and alcohol, as well as flutes! It can be eaten, woven and used as medicine. With only a minimal effort, the world will generously produce enough bamboo for everyone.

The rattle and rustle of a breeze through a bamboo thicket is an effective and safe tranquilizer. Some people have even entertained the notion that bamboo clumps possess intelligence and recognize their benefactors. And bamboo, like an Avatar, is empty within. According to legend the Buddha, after his enlightenment, retired to the sanctity of a bamboo grove to marvel at the universe.
