Avatar is about exploring and changing consciousness. This idea can be frightening to someone who has previously suffered indignity, overwhelm and eventual failure in some other therapy or spiritual practice.

Exploring consciousness with Avatar is not about rummaging around in the sorrows of the past, screaming at pillows or staring into the blackness behind closed eyes.
