The Pathless Path
or How To Be The Perfect Imperfect Finder Of TruthBy Pameo Hoffmann
A young man wished to find the perfect master. He traveled to India and visited a famous yogi. But when the young man tried to open a dialogue, the yogi would not speak. So he traveled on.
This was not his idea of a perfect master. A master is one who teaches. Now this man simply sits there, silent, like a stupid man. There is no message. He is not the messiah. How can one be a messiah without a message?
Then he went to Japan and entered a monastery, but the venerable master seemed to him overly harsh and ruthless. The master used to beat people, throw them out of the windows, jump on them even while they were asleep. Now, this was not his cup of tea.
Arriving in Iran, he met a Sufi who gave him meaningless answers to his very serious questions. He would ask about the East and the Sufi would talk about the West. He would ask about the Earth and the Sufi would talk about the sky. Now this was ridiculous; this man was mad.
Finally the young man climbed the high mountains of Tibet and in an ancient Lamasery on a wind-swept cliff, he was permitted an audience with the head Lama, a famous master of the region. To the young man, the Lama was not sufficiently austere, for he was surrounded by silks, gold, and other riches. Yet the Lamas words seemed wise, and the young man believed that this was the closest he would come to finding the perfect master. So he begged permission to become a disciple of the Lama. The Lama replied, No.
When the young man asked why, the Lama said, Because I will only accept the perfect
disciple.
When Avatar was first introduced to me I was still wearing the filter of searching for the perfect master/teaching. I did not recognize the enlightening power of this path and the tremendous gift that Harry Palmer had bestowed on the world in the form of the Avatar tools. In short, my ego viewpoint and projections saw an American organization charging money for enlightenment. What a hoot! A picture of Harry Palmer confirmed all my projections. There he was with his baseball cap and denim shirt. Definitely no guru! My ideal holy man (not a woman, by the way) had flowing garments eastern style, dark eyes, and a long beard, an ascetic of some sort, and this didnt fit with anything I saw around Avatar. Fortunately, my ego didnt get the better of me, and a little voice, intuition, or Higher Self (whatever you would call it) told me to do the course.
That was seven years ago, and my gratitude to Harry and the Avatar tools is still growing, like a tree, deeper into the ground and higher into the sky. Each step of the training from the first course all the way to Wizards has its own set of unique tools. Yet I was given no ready-made answers to my questions, Who am I? Where is the path? What is the truth?
The journey is ongoing. In comparison with past journeys, I no longer collect more and more to hold on to, yet I find myself letting go of more and more. Theres a spring to my step, more joy and fulfillment along the way. Every now and then in special moments of gratitude I would try in vain to put the label special guru, or holy Man on Harry, but there was nobody to stick it on.
Harry, your vision, love, and your commitment to create an enlightened planetary civilization is now shared and experienced by many many thousands of people around the globe. Thank you for helping me to find my own unique path and for sharing your beautiful planetwide community!
