Listening To Lao Tzu Explain Avatar

by Harry Palmer

Left to their own design, the creations in this universe will follow certain observable patterns. An acorn, finding the conditions to sustain life, will grow into an oak tree. That is its default pattern. And water will flow downhill. And an object heavier than air will fall. And warm air will rise. And fire will thaw ice. And the sun rises in the east. And.. .etc.

The ancient Chinese philosopher called these default patterns the Tao. Modern science refers to them as the laws of the universe. The sources of these default patterns are beliefs held at a primal level of awareness-above-consciousness that is normally, at least before the appearance of the Avatar techniques, discreate-protected from the efforts of the individual. These are the beliefs that sustain the physical playground within which the individual consciousness has appeared and evolved over the last several million years. The quieter you become and the more you approach the source of your own existence, the more face to face you will come with these ancient principles of the Tao.

The Tao is like a giant puzzle with many interchangeable pieces. Each piece is an opportunity to experience a primal facet of existence— immutable? Unchanging? Perhaps, or maybe only to creatures who fail to see a difference between a million-billion years and eternity.

To some degree, the picture is always changing. The house changes faster than the wood in the board. The wood in the board changes faster than the nail in the wood The nail changes faster than the molecule of steel within the nail.
The molecule of steel changes faster than the elemental atoms that compose the molecules, etc. The Tao appears not to change at all. This is the meaning behind the remark: "...the changing rests upon the unchanging."
